The network's Top New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
