The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Adrian Dunbar are set to reprise their characters in the popular crime series

The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
