Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Worries.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he came back the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the previous Test.
