Mikel Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Team and Reveals Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

The Gunners' boss remains confident that his side can continue to cope with injury setbacks after disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been sidelined for months following knee surgery. Initially expected to return sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when increasing his training and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is considerably steadier and has more options,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This update presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Linger

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on reinforcements during the summer has resulted in a far better place to handle such absences.

Greater Options Vital for Premier League Pursuit

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their title quest, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, as this campaign has been worse in the attacking line, and now the problems with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in different positions, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Commenting on the setback previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the next level and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, for me, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his character, his attitude. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His fitness history is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to have him back around the team playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
